Outside broadcast events over fibre

For many years, fibre optic links have been used for outside broadcast applications with the standard benefits of transmission of  high-bandwidth, interference-free video, audio, and data over long distances etc.

However as the development of 4K/8K requirement together with AI for real time highlight creation, editing automation, as well as  personal preference options means bigger data.

The cloud is used to and archive media remotely and has the ability to scale storage during high-demand time.

This requires a seamless and rapid transfer of data vis dynamic IP-based workflows from a remote production based environment.

Typically, hybrid cable assemblies are used to have both data and a power paths.

This is relatively easy from a cable construction perspective, but what happens when you get to each end of the link?

The solutions for this challenge include:

- Expanded beam hybrid harsh environment connectivity

- Harsh environment housing for "standard" fibre connectors

- Hybrid electrical and termini connectivity within one shell

All of these would benefit from the "Holy Grail" of fibre transmission, aka Power Over Fibre (PoF), with:

- A higher electrical power transmission capability

- Maintenance of EMI and data transmission capacity

This, of course, is a deep dive for another time.
