Strangely, there's still some perceived mystique regarding fibre optics.

"I understand everything about copper connectors!"
Just because there are terms like dB, dBm, IL/RL before you even talk about fibre & connector types, never mind protocols, it's no more complicated than "older" technology.
Are the principles of an ethernet connection eaier?
Are NEXT, FEXT, propagation delay and twist pitch simple concepts?
Unfortunately, until that time when Quantum Computing allows seamless data transfer without the need for transceivers in a link.
Granted, additional skills are required for installers and technicians (I was running seminars on the subject at colleges in the 1900s) but nothing onerous...
