Despite the domestic rollout of full fibre availability now exceeding 80% in the UK, take-up is lagging at around 35% overall, within that (unsurprisingly) there is a split between rural take-up of 52% and urban take-up 32%.
Ofcom has stated "Full-fibre broadband is on course to become available to almost the entire country by 2027", so 2026 is going to be a busy year, firstly achieving this infrastructure goal and secondly encouraging take-up to achieve a modicum of positive RoI for all stakeholders.
Of course the latter is down to customer offers from service providers, mainly based on connection speed (despite customer interface infrastructure/hardware being identical for all connection speeds...) and of course 5G.
Note: It has taken me nearly 30 years to actually access FTTH, after working on the Bishop Stortford trials back in the early 1990s.
Better late than never!
